I love iPhone racing games, because of the easiness of how you race. Using the accelerometer or having the pedals physically on the screen, most racing games are very fun to play on the iPhone, of course, when the developer provides a good UI to the game and gives many options to how to play the game. Unlike some other games, racing games just cannot be simple. Or else, it will get boring.

The other day I came across Need For Speed Shift, which is a game from EA that is usually made for consoles like the PS2, PS3, PC, and XBox360. So when I found out that they released an iPhone game, I was quick to try out the game. The game is $9.99 in the app store, and I think it’s worth it with all the features the game provides.

You have the ability to drive 20 cars, all of which are supercars. You can access both live bluetooth and local WiFi Multiplayer across 6 modes of the game. 18 huge, unique tracks in all parts of the world. 3 different modes for beginners, pro’s, or veterans. Not to mention, it has stunning 3D graphics which almost makes it look like a console game.

Of course, like any other Need for Speed game, you have the ability to customize your car in a ton of ways. Nitrous upgrades, spoilers, rims, specialized paint, and much much more.

This is definitely one of the best racing games of 2009, maybe ever. Asphalt 5 is OK, but doesn’t provide the full customization features Need For Speed has.
